When I get up in the mornings, the first thing I know I need to do is move more. But let’s be honest—motivation can be hard. Some mornings I’m just not feeling it. Still, I’ve learned that even a little bit of movement makes such a difference. We all know we’ll begin to feel better in both body and mind when we add more movement into our days. Movement doesn’t just help us stay active—it boosts our energy, lifts our mood, keeps our joints happier, and even helps with stress relief.
Here are some of my favorite simple ways—now that I’m over 60—to get moving:
- Walk the dog or take a quiet stroll around the block. Fresh air and gentle movement can do wonders.
- Find a fun workout video on YouTube that fits your pace and personality.
- Do a little gardening when the weather cooperates—digging, planting, and watering all count as exercise.
- Turn on your favorite tunes and dance around the kitchen. It’s joyful, spontaneous, and great for the heart.
- Use a printable workout routine you can do throughout the day—simple stretches, light weights, or chair exercises.
And remember—just start where you are. Five minutes counts. Truly. Movement doesn’t have to be long or intense to make a difference. You can break it into short bursts throughout the day and still feel the benefits.
What matters most is finding movement that feels enjoyable and doable. It doesn’t have to be fancy or perfect. Just keep your body moving in small, consistent ways. Your future self will thank you—and you really will feel better. I promise.
